Adventures in 4th Grade Wednesday, March 1, 2017 Dear 4th Grade Families, We hope you had a restful February break. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend open house before the break. Thank you also to all our Ano Nuevo chaperones. We look forward to meeting with you at conferences next week! Adventures in Math The 4th graders are beginning a new geometry and measurement unit in math. In this unit they will: measure angles and determine angle measurements based upon given information, sort and classify shapes based upon the number and kinds of sides and angles they have, and calculate the area and perimeter of rectangles. Please click the link  to see sample problems and frequently asked questions about this unit of study. Historical Fiction Book Clubs Our 4th grade readers are beginning historical fiction book clubs. These clubs invite students to begin reading analytically right from the start, to synthesize complicated narratives, to compare and contrast themes, and to incorporate nonfiction research into their reading. It’s a beautiful intellectual journey, and the stories themselves sweep the children along with their exciting dramas. No matter your child's reading level, this unit of study will deepen their comprehension, their text analysis, and their knowledge. The unit is structured so that children are divided into small clubs. Each club will read several novels set within a historical time period, and research nonfiction, including primary sources such as historical images.
