The upper andlower units may be composed of either elemental units or previously definedcompound units. conformable sequences A conformable sequence is a stratigraphic envelope that bounds groups ofintervals with similar stratigraphic and structural characteristics. conformable units Units defined as  conformable   all share a general structure. contiguous units If a unit is defined as  contiguous  , the floor of the unit is the same surface asthe roof of the next unit stratigraphically below. current design file The design file to which you have creation access—this design file can bewritten to via the current layer current layer The current design file layer is the active layer in which elements will becreated interactively using CAD. current units Used to input and output data to the current project—the current unit nameand decimal places settings for each unit category is known as the  current units   for the project. D display definition Anameddefinitionthatcontainssettingsforgraphicelementattributes(colour,font, line style etc.)—used by Minescape whenever a module draws data to adesign file or a triangle file. drill hole objects Drill holes are stored as objects in a design file. The effective distance   is the approximate distance to the closest known datapoint—this distance is calculated for each interpolated value. elemental units Elementalunitsarethefundamentalcomponentsofastratigraphicmodelandare used to create compound units when modelling parent intervals and splits. F faults Line string elements that can contain up to 500 vertices, stored in Stratmodelasgraphicalobjectsinadesignfile.Associatedwitheachvertexarethrowanddip values. fixed format A format for loading data. For this format, values are always in certaincolumns—the start column and length must be given. FEM interpolator TheinterpolatorknownasFEM(finiteelementmethod)worksbyrepresentingthe surface to be solved for by a set of triangles. format identifier Stratmodelusestheformatidentifiertodistinguishbetweenthedifferenttypesof data (e.g. Geodas2 sheet numbers). format Spec AtypeofMinescapespecificationthatenablesyoutodefinewherefieldsexistalong a data record. free format A format for loading data. For this format, values are separated by spaces—columns are not important. The values are then referred to as  tokens   and theorder of the tokens is specified together with the start column. I, J, K interval AunitinStratmodelmayconsistofaresourceinterval(e.g.acoalseam)—often referred to as an  interval  interval and burden weighting factors Multipliers which are defined in the schema and which tell Stratmodel toprovide extra weighting to interval thicknesses and interburden thicknesseswhen determining precedence. The interval and burden weightings interrelatewith the  effective distance  . L limiting polygons Limiting polygons may be introduced to the Stratmodel in areas where aninterval may have been washed out or eroded. In these areas, limitingpolygons cause the intervals to be truncated at the boundaries of thepolygons. M major contours Normal linear contours with annotations. These can be generated bycontouring at a specified contour interval (i.e. not by values). minor contours Normal linear contours without annotations. Display definitions are used tocontrol colour and line attributes. meshes Ameshisanetworkofeast-westandnorth-southlinesthatisdrawnusinggridcell nodes. P pinchouts The concept used to pinch out an interval is that a value is modelled into thedatapointnotcontainingtheinterval.Thisvalueisthennegated,oreffectively flipped   which results in the interval having a negative thickness at the datapoint.Byuseoftheschema,Stratmodelinterpretsvaluesfortheroofandfloorthat reflect the pinched-out area. pinchout lines A pinchout line divides the area where intervals exist or do not exist, due todepositional pinchout. postline objects A postline object is simply a special version of a line object, the differencebeing that it is a named object. It defines a posting offset and is used toprevent overplotting of text in adjacent drill hole posting locations. Q, R rainbow contours A contour in which the regions between the contours form polygons shadedwith a rainbow grading i.e. high values are at one end of the colour spectrum,whilst low values are at the other. These contours are particularly suitable fordisplaying quality values. S schemas The rules of modelling and stratigraphy required to build a stratigraphic modelaredefinedinaStratmodel  schema  .TheschemainStratmodelcontainsallofthe information required to create a stratigraphic model and is the mostimportant part of using Stratmodel in Minescape. seam See interval.
