Ocean Beach History San Diego has many beaches, today we will be talking about Ocean Beach and the history of it. The streets were laid out and things were starting to come into place in 1887. Ocean Beach has been around for over 130 years and it continues to grow both with population and history. The pier in OB extends 1,971 feet into the ocean and it is the second longest pier on the west coast and purported to be the longest concrete pier in the world. Its unique T-shape at the end adds 360 feet to the south and 193 feet to the north. It began construction around 1915 and was opened on july sixth of 1966. People from all over come and walk along and above the beautiful Pacific Ocean to see the beautiful whales that appear in the oceans waves, along with the many surfers that help populate OB. At sunset it seems as though the sky and the pier are connected in the most beautiful way. Go to the pier at sunset and snap a few shots and you won't be disappointed. The pier is an amazing piece of work made by our San Diego fathers, or should I say, our Ocean Beach fathers. Ocean Beach would not be complete without this peir, take a minute to walk on it and you will see why. Since OB has been around the population has simply just gotten bigger and it continues to do so. The current population of Ocean Beach is 10,144. When Ocean Beach was just starting out, not to many people wanted to live there. During this time everyone hated the beach and how the mornings were foggy, so for the longest time it was deserted. Only used and lived in by few people who just needed a place to live. Until about the 1990’s people finally started to come around and the house prices started rising. This all lead to it being a wonderful place where there is always something to do no matter what you like. And now you can never even get a    burger or go to the beach on a saturday without having to wait in a line or having to be cramped and crowded in the hot heat and hot sand. The view however, makes up for it. It has taken a lot of work to make it the place it is, so next time you are in ocean beach, take a walk on the pier and enjoy one of San Diego’s main attractions.
