Wow, February has flown by as our kids have been busy learning and doing amazing work. As our kids have been busy learning and preparing projects to share at our Spring Showcase, we continue to encourage our healthy lifestyles with our wellness activities. Remember to turn in your push up counts and Schools on the Move logs. Kids who have completed 2017 pushups have their names on the wall by the gym. Way to go! Thank you to those of you who attended our math training last month. As we learn more about how best to help children learn, we like to visit with you about how you can support them at home. We are seeing such tremendous growth from our math problem solvers and we are so proud of their perseverance! On our collaboration day February 20, our staff spent time aligning our work in writing by working across grade levels sharing student work and developing com-mon agreements and language for writing instruction. We also aligned the pro-gression of our math standards from kindergarten through fifth grade while sharing best practices using our new curriculum Envision. We believe this aligned, consistent approach benefits students who progress through our school year after year. It was a powerful day of learning for all. In March, our accountability committee will be analyzing our enrollment projec-tions and draft budget from the district in order to create a plan for our staffing and budget in 2017-2018. With our growth, there are many factors to consider to ensure our building maintains the high quality education we currently provide. I would welcome your feedback on next steps as I begin to plan for the growth that continues here at Bethke. It has been confirmed we will not get another portable for the 17-18 school year. continued on next page    Page 2   Bethke Elementary March 2017   Good luck this month to our teams competing in the Odyssey of the Mind compe-tition. I know all of our teams have worked hard to prepare. A special thank you to the parents and volunteers for all of their work with each team! Go bobcats! This month our very own Sophia Dellota will also be competing in the Colorado State Spelling Bee representing Bethke. Good luck Sophia! We are so proud of you!!! Thanks to our volunteers and families at home who support us each day. We val-ue your partnership as we honor all learners.  Ann Alfonso Principal  Page 3   Bethke Elementary March 2017   February Rotary Teacher of the Month   Congratulations to Stacy Gunstream, Rotary Teacher of the Month for February. Congratulations!  Page 4   Bethke Elementary March 2017   PTO News   Hello Bethke families! It’s hard to believe that Spring is just around the corner! There are only a couple of months left in the school year, and there are still so many events and activities coming up. There are still opportunities to volunteer in the classroom, library, or in the copy room. Thank you to our wonderful volunteers who have contribut-ed so many hours of their time. There are currently 184 volunteers who have logged over 1700 hours so far this school year! Thank you! We are so close to our end-of-year Pledge goal! Thank you to those who have already been so generous with your donations. We have received $20,726.40 to date, which is  just about $800 short of our goal! Over the next couple of months the pledge will help fund upcoming field trips like 5th grade Eco Week, 4th grade CO History, 3rd grade Water Festival and the Museum, 2nd grade Butterfly Pavilion, 1st grade Aquarium, and kindergarten Theatre! Please consider a donation to help us meet our end-of-year goal. Check with your employer to see if they will match your donation as well! We are currently accepting nominees for the PTO Board for the 2017-2018 school year. Open positions include President, Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, and Volunteer Coor-dinator. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring new leadership and ideas to the PTO. Office descriptions and nomination forms can be found at http://bethkepto.weebly.com/about-us.html  Applications must be turned in to the front office by April 6 th . Elections will take place at the April 11th PTO meeting. Please take a moment and consider vol-unteering for one of these positions. If you have any questions, please visit the PTO website or contact any current board member. The PTO is looking to bring back EduKits for next year. These are pre-packaged boxes containing school supplies for each grade level. You can order a box for your child and the boxes will be delivered to school prior to the first day labeled with your child's name. No more shopping for school supplies at the last minute! We are looking for someone to head up this committee and organize the ordering and delivery of the EduKits. If you are interested in leading this committee, please contact Ann Alfonso at aalfonso@psdschools.org The Staff Cares Committee has worked hard this school year to honor our wonderful teachers and staff! The committee put on a fun 'breakfast for lunch' for the teachers in December, followed by a great chili cook-off from the 3rd grade families in January. The 2nd grade families provided an italian luncheon in February. Thanks to Jenn Meier, committee, and our Bethke families who provide food and help during these luncheons. Keep using those King Soopers cards! Don’t have one? It’s not too late to pick up a free card from the front office. You can do all your shopping while supporting our Bethke Bobcats. 5% of all your purchases will come back to Bethke. Thank you to those who attended our PTO meeting on February 7th. In addition to budget and various committee updates, Principal Ann Alfonso talked to us about up-coming state testing. The meeting minutes can be found on the PTO website. Our next PTO meeting is Tuesday, April 11th at 8:35 a.m. in the Bethke cafeteria. Nicole Pilgrim PTO Secretary
