Kautilya gave this theor y forforeign relations and diplomacy. According to this theory Foreign rulers are classified into four groups. Ari (Enemies), Mitra(Friends), Madhyama(Mediators) and Udasina(Neutrals). Inimicaland friendly rulers are divided into into two kinds natural and artificial. According toKautilya the king and his immediate neighbours are the natural enemies to each other. A king who attempted to give trouble to another king without reasonable cause was anartificial enemy of that king. A ruler whose friendship was courted for the sake of protection of life andproperty was the artificial friend. The ruler whose territory was situated close to that of a king and his wicked enemy and who was capable of helping both the kings or of resisting either of them, according toKautilya was a Mediator and the ruler whose territory was situated between the territoriesof two rival kings and who was powerful enough to help or resist either of them or amediating king was Neutral. The distinction between Neutral and Mediators are not very clear but I thing the king who remained passive in regard to both the parties are Neutral while Madhyama king was the one who exerted his influence to bring reconciliation. The neighbouring king belong to either of four classes, rearward enemy (parshnigraha),rearward friend (akaranda), ally of a rearward enemy (parshnigrahasana), ally of arearward friend (akarandasara). According to Kautilya, a powerful king should always try to make himself center (nabhi) of the circle(mandala). Depending on the situation theking should adopt any of the following policies, namely, peace (sandhi), war(vigraha),neutrality (asana), preparedness for war(yana), alliance(samsraya) and double dealing(dvaidhibhava). According to Kautilya there are four ways you can achieve the above policies, namely, conciliation (sama), making of gift (dana), showing of dissension (bheda), punishment(danda). you must be heard of this.  Ask Question  Ask or Search Quora  Read Answer Notifications Dipesh   1  10/26/2016 (1) What is the Mandal theory of Kautilya? - Quorahttps://www.quora.com/What-is-the-Mandal-theory-of-Kautilya 3/4 It may be quite confusing so lets take a note from this theory.sources: http://shodhganga.inflibnet.ac.i...Rajamandalahttps://prezi.com/2z0j_ihhet6v/m... 6.9k Views · View Upvotes Top Stories from Your Feed Popular on Quora What was the first thing you didafter a break-up?
